The Reason

In the Frost Laden Air

Copyright 2006.

Written for an Advent Story project I'm working on. This is the story of the shepherds in Luke 2.

We would be wise to remember that once they had found the baby, they told everyone the Good News.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
On a dark, lonely hillside, 'neath a cold starry sky
A small band of shepherds kept watch in the night
And their white wooly charges were safe in their care
As their soft, bleating cries cut the frost-laden air.

Verse 2:
One by one, the cold shepherds drifted off into sleep
Until only one shepherd watched over the sheep
When suddenly light filled the sky everywhere
And a tune made in heaven filled the frost-laden air.

Chorus:
"Praise the Lord! For His mercy endures evermore!
Praise the Lord all you people, from every shore!
And Glory to God in the Highest
And on Earth, there is Peace and Goodwill to all men evermore!"

Verse 3:
Then an angel appeared, and said, "Don't be afraid!
For I bring you good news for all of mankind!
There is born down in Bethlehem a Savior and Lord
Wrapped in rags, in a manger, in the frost-laden air!"

Verse 4:
And then, suddenly millions of angels were singing!
And the song made in heaven from hilltops came ringing!
A message of love, and a message of care
And a message of Peace split the frost-laden air!

Chorus:

Verse 5:
When the angels were gone, then the shepherds came running!
"Let us see this great sight that the Lord has made known!"
And they told everyone of the baby they found
And the song they had heard in the frost-laden air.

Chorus:
